The Wachowski Brothers continue to embarass themselves with this stupid, meandering, pointless bore of a movie. I wouldn’t even call it an adaptation of Alan Moore’s book, it’s a misunderstanding of the book. I’ve read a lot of reviews that have commented on this film’s ‘stand’ on terrorism and I don’t get what has possessed anyone to take this film so seriously. The Star Wars franchise is a more serious statement about terrorism vs corrupt statism.
Hugo Weaving spends the movie choking on over-written dialogue. I wanted to give him the himlech manuever. Natalie Portman was boring. All the best parts of the book; escape from concentration camp, address to humanity; are torn out in favor of anemic political commentary, already dating itself.
Plus they’ve tacked on some ludacris kung-fu fight scene at the end with magic glowing knives.
Competently shot while visually boring, Psuedo philosophical, the score is busy undermining every scene. The biggest crime the movie commits is abandoning the books gleeful embrace of anarchy in favor of some move on . org style politicising.
