Destroy All Films! (The exclamation mark is not silent)
DAF! is an amalgamation of synergistic awesomeness. Our poorly written reviews and unique brand of half-assed-ness and bad attitude is more than compensated for by our over blown feeling of above-adequacy, not too mention panache, sizzle, and je ne se quois.
Astute readers may have recognized that our title is an homage to the Honda Toshiro classic monster show down Destroy All Monsters but the writing is all new waves and Russian avante gards.
Behold our fine staff of dapper gents:
D.Rockwood – site designer, content editor, web developer. He does it all and somehow he’s drunk by noon.
Favorite film maker: Werner Herzog. These days it’s all the rage to worship at the alter of Herzog but I was first on the band wagon ever since I saw Gummo (in the theater, original release. It’s called art film cred) and I went home and found an interview with Harmony Korine and Herzog. So no Johnny Come-Lastly am I.
Least favorite filmmaker: That’d be Terrence Zwigoff. Fuck that sheep raper. Seriously. Bad Santa would first have to learn an instrument in order to qualify as one note.
I had a review of Ghost World posted but my legal advisor made me take it down because it was supposedly “nothing more than a list of obscene threats directed toward Mr. Zwigoff and his loved ones”. Whatever that means.
Top 10: Rumble Fish – Coppola, Deliverance – Boorman, Medium Cool – Wexler, 400 Blows – Truffaut, Twin Peaks (yeah, the TV show and the movie) – Lynch, The Blade – Tsui Hark, Camera Man – Kieslowski, Touch of Evil – Welles, Mean Streets – Scorsese, Aguirre – Herzog, Do The Right Thing – Spike Lee, Lessons of Darkness – Herzog, 6 O’clock News – McEllwe,
10 modern classics: Iron Monkey, Ed Wood, Heat, Children of Men, Irreversible, Kill Bill (1+2), Bottle Rocket, Violent Cop, Slacker, One False Move, Big Lebowski, Crumb.
