Slater used to post a lot on the CHUD boards, and I think he used to write a little for them, DVD reviews and other things - it's hard to find old stuff on that site with the recent redesign. Anyway, i think Slater is a pretty cool guy. eh rapes Dominic Monaghan and doesn't afraid of anything.

Check out this recent spat Slater got into with some tools over at CHUD for lawls. You need to read the blog in question and then read down through the thread to get to the good stuff:
http://chud.com/forum/showthread.php?t=105405

Also, wickedawesomemovies.blogspot.com didn't work in my browser how did you get there?!?!

A mess of a film that I didn't hate, just didn't like much at all. But yeah, I dug the little dance number too, even if it was just in there to make the film maker look quirky and appear to be "thinking outside the box." It doesn't hurt that I relly like the song from the Killers too.

You captured my thoughts exactly too. I love that part where you think it's just going to go into this huge choreographed dance number and instead he just stands there in a drunken stupor. This would make a great finite focus feature.

I really wouldn't say I was at all confused, maybe surprised. I wasn't expecting the different story lines to be so disparate. They felt like different characters which I think was intentional.

"it does deserve attention for breaking the mold of lazy, un-original biopics in the vein of Ray and I Walk The Line."

It's funny because I meant something along these lines in my review. I said literally word for word the same thing while I was discussing FACTORY GIRL. I think it's true of FACTORY GIRL and a I think it's true of I'M NOT THERE.

I appreciate your imput on the film because like I said I think I'm missing a familiarity with Dylan that would've tied the whole thing together for me. When you talk about Richard Gere as Billy The Kid being vital, I wish I felt that way.

I'm pretty sure this was a great movie, though I do need to go back and re-watch it. I don't really understand your confusion about the number of characters. Also, I have read this opinion on the misplacement of the Richard Gere section elsewhere, but to me it was vital. It brings in the sad, underground forgotten folklore found throughout Dylan's career, from start to now, prevalent most notably in The Basement Tapes and his late 80's to current output. I'm Not There may not necessarily be a classic, but it does deserve attention for breaking the mold of lazy, un-original biopics in the vein of Ray and I Walk The Line.

I think the ending is entirely significant... I cannot remember if I came up with this interpretation or if someone else did... its been half a year now... but the clue to everything is that when Tony enters the restaurant he looks over and sees himself sitting down. from that point on we are in Tony's mind, he is imagining a scenario perhaps instigated by the Rockwell appearance of the restaurant. In it he makes a final significant conclusion about what has been the entire arc of the show since the beginning: to be a mobster or be a family man. If you notice the family members that talk to him in this scene are all a bit off, there is an ease to their communication that is rarely occuring in the regular part of the show, this is an idealized get together.

occassionaly the problems of reality keep intervening in Tony's fantasy, AJ brings up something, and of course there is the man at the bar... when the song 'Don't Stop Believing' comes on (not accidental) we are still waiting for the daughter to arrive (why am I forgetting her name?) anyways... the shit goes down when she enters the restaurant... and if you remember the last scene Tony had with her she was angry about how Italians are portrayed and considered Tony a victim, and he looked a bit upset about her thinking this... Tony had been able to live his duplicitous life and keep up the fantasy of being a family man, but I think, the realization of the daughter adopting his delusion, that popped the bubble, and does when she enters the fantasy. The way I see it is that the fantasy signifies Tony's ultimate decision, be a family man or continue the downward spiral... and the song, the realization of his delusion brought about by his daughter... all in one black-out a conviction is made, and from that point on it is decadence, destruction, the end of it all.

I like to believe that ending, it makes sense to me... but I also understand Bob Harris's death ceremony interpretation as well.

Wow, I agree with you on all of the films here (except the ones I've not yet seen: History of Violence and Brazil).

Some of them were ok, but didn't live up to the hype/cult/lovin' status people give 'em.

I think what he was defending was his ignorance.
yeah, it was one of those times where someone says something so ill informed it should be forgotten but so wrong you can't hold your tongue.
I'd love to post on chud but i'm actually trying to go in the other direction and post on boards less. Chud is awesome but the community there seems closed off and unapproachable. How will I ever make a name for myself?

Didn't see Die Hard or Die Trying .
